Sean Fennessy’s Tokyo Salarymen observes the movements of office workers in Ginza during Japan’s prolonged Covid 19 restrictions. With the country’s border closed to tourists, the normally bustling streets appear almost deserted, left only to the ubiquitous Salarymen.

Fennessy was working in Japan in 2022 and created this series on a day off over the course of 12 hours.

Often dwarfed by the surrounding metropolis, the subjects of Tokyo Salarymen are a stark illustration of cultural idiosyncrasies during a unique period of modern history.
